James Radford joins PMD Business Finance

We’re so excited to announce that PMD Business Finance has added former Totalkare sales and marketing director, James Radford to its ever-growing team of commercial finance specialists.

James Radford, who was sales and marketing director at Totalkare for 29 years until recently becoming a non-executive director, has joined North Manchester based PMD Business Finance, one of the largest independent brokers in the UK.

Having worked with us closely for the past 13 years, James already has a great understanding of who we are as a business. So, we wanted to know more about James. We got together to ask him some questions about himself and what he thinks of his new role within PMD.

Tell us a bit about where you’ve worked in the past.

Prior to joining PMD, I have worked within the garage equipment sector at Totalkare. I started as a Trainee salesman 29 years ago and eventually became a director and shareholder. I’ve recently become a non-executive director at Totalkare. This allows me more time to focus on a career in a different sector.

What excited you about the role with PMD?

During my 29 years of supplying garage equipment I’ve always offered asset finance as a payment option to my customers. I have worked closely with PMD over the past 13 years so when I decided that asset finance was a career path that I wanted to follow, PMD was the obvious choice. I’m admirable of the impressive customer service and enthusiasm of the PMD team. I am really excited to become a member of this team.

What are your key responsibilities within your role with PMD?

Over the past 29 years I have built up a number of contacts in the bus and coach industry, as well as hauliers, franchise dealers and vehicle repairers. My main focus to start with will be to make contact with these companies to see if they have any asset finance requirements. However, I will also be asking if any of the other services that PMD can offer are required.

What are you enjoying the most so far?

It is interesting to see PMD from within rather than looking at the company through the eyes of a vendor. I have always been impressed with PMD’s customer service. Being on the inside now seeing how everybody works together in a great atmosphere, it is easy to see how this translates to good customer service.

What do you get up to in your spare time?

I’m a rugby fan. Worcester Warriors are the team that I follow. It’s sometimes a painful experience as they spend most of the time propping up the bottom of the Premiership. I try to keep fit by running and swimming as often as possible. I’ve also been playing a bit of tennis recently. We’re currently renovating our house so after years of not having a clue about building etc, I’ve suddenly become an expert… I’m looking forward to it being able to finish it though! My wife and I enjoy travelling. However, due to Covid and the house renovation we haven’t done much of that in the past 2 years. Once we are back in the house we will start to book some holidays!

Tell us a fun fact about you!

Totalkare once supplied some lifts to be used on the television programme ‘The Knock’. It was in my early days at the company, so I was sent to operate the lifts whenever needed. I appeared in the credits for the show as ‘Head of Lifts’.

What’s your greatest achievement outside of work?

Doing a bungee jump and a skydive in the same day when I was visiting New Zealand!
