Say Hello to John Platt!

Another week another new starter announcement, introducing John Platt!

This week we are shining the spotlight on John Platt our new Structured Finance Director! We wanted to get to know John Platt a little better, and what better way to do that than with a Q&A session?

Name
John Platt

Job Title
Structured Finance Director

What is your day to-to-day role at PMD?
I have joined the business to head up PMD’s Property Finance Division which forms part of the Structured Finance Team. As a new PMD offering, I have spent the first couple of months developing a panel of specialist property funders. As well as this, I’ve been introducing our new service to our internal & intermediary channels. Additionally, I’ve been focusing on reviewing inbound enquiries from our valued customers.

As we move into 2022 with a new support team member recruited, my focus will shift towards business development activity & delivering higher value transactions for the business.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I am an avid sports fan, enjoying football, boxing & athletics. However, when I’m not spending quality time with my little boy, I like to read on theology, history & most of all (pre COVID at least!) to travel.

What was your role before joining PMD?
Most recently, I was a Corporate Banker, joining PMD from NatWest where I ran a Leisure, Hotels & Retail portfolio across the North West.

Where is the most exciting place you have traveled to?
In 2008 during my younger, less responsible years, I spent 3.5 weeks touring Brazil with my pals. We spent some time in Fernando de Noronha, which is an archipelago off the North East coast & a surfers paradise. It also happens to be the best party island you have ever been to! 😊

What made you want to get into Property Finance at PMD?
I’ve admired PMD’s growth story from afar over the past few years. Therefore I was keen to join a truly entrepreneurial business that retains ambitions to expand its market share. Being involved in that strategy was the key driver for me & I am excited to play a part in shaping & influencing the Property Finance Division. We hope this will be a key contributor to PMD’s continued successes.

What is it about PMD that gets you excited about the work culture?
Genuinely, what has impressed me most has been the collaborative approach across the whole team. Seemingly everyone is bought into the common values that you work hard, support each other & share in the rewards. It’s a testament to the culture that PMD promotes here. Also, coming from Large Corporate Institutions, I find it refreshing that we just cut through the red tape & get the job done for the betterment of our clients & for our people.

What has been the highlight of your first few weeks at PMD?
I have enjoyed a warm welcome from new colleagues & many of our key funding partners. It has also been great getting to know some of our customers who hold PMD in high regard & see us as their first port of call for all & any funding requests.

What kind of advice would you offer for anyone interested in working in the finance industry?
I am not sure that I am qualified to offer advice, however, my lived experience is that if you are punctual, self-motivated to work hard & treat everyone with respect & courtesy, everything else can be learned along the way.

Do you want to be part of our fantastic growing team?
We are recruiting for multiple roles throughout the business, so if you’ve got what it takes to be part of the PMD family then email your CV to jonny@pmdbusinessfinance.co.uk today! Business leaders unite to tackle homelessness across the UK

September 1, 2023
When we first think of homelessness and rough sleeping, we often picture vulnerable people left out on city streets, begging for money or food.  However, the root cause of this crisis extends far beyond this simplistic view and is further exacerbated by the economic challenges we are faced with in business and at home.
